Summer Blog Series, July 16 | I Am Orange

?

Over the course of my life, I?ve realized that the value you place on family can be determined by how much time you invest in the ones you call family.

My family lives in Southern California, while I have lived in Texas the past five years. My mother, stepdad, brother and sister and their families all continue to reside in California.?Texas and California?are not close in proximity, but I make it a point to return to California every year to spent time with my family. When it comes to these summer vacations, both the quality and quantity of time I invest in my family matters. On July 13th, I returned to Texas from a three and a half week visit in California. My church, school, home, and my closest friends?are in Texas, and they are never easy to leave. But my family matters to me, wherever they are. I want them to know that I will take the time out of my scheduled life to stop and devote personal?time to having new experiences with them. This past trip we created wonderful memories at the beach, at different restaurants, at street fairs, and during Fourth of July fireworks. But the best times I remember were conversations we had while we worked on puzzles and played cards. Those were the moments I remember the most during my trip, especially teaching my nieces strategies and eventually watching them beat me at cards.

I love my family, and when God blesses me with the opportunity to spend quality time with them, I go for it! God has given each of us a unique family. And He does ask us to cherish the ones that He has brought near. Don?t miss a moment because you are too busy, especially if you have your family near to you. But if you are far from your family like me, make it?a point to prayerfully seek God about new ways that you can let them know you?are thinking of them. Perhaps you could send them a card, or even start saving?up to visit them. Let your family know that you are willing to invest your time and money into getting to know them more and sharing new experiences with them. Family matters.
