Google and Apple sitting in a tree?

News

Reuters has reported that the relationship between Apple and Google has been on the up recently. The source of this welcome news is none other than Google?s executive chairman, Eric Schmidt.

Over the last year, the two companies have held ?lots and lots? of meetings, according to Schmidt.

Schmidt made his comments to reporters during the yearly Allen and Co media conference, which he attended last week with Google?s chief business officer, Nikesh Arora.

According to Schmidt, Arora has been leading many of the Google/Apple meetings and the two companies are in ?constant?business?discussions on a long list of issues?.

Relations between the two companies have definitely seen peaks and troughs over the years. Once upon a time, Schmidt sat on the Apple board of directors, but increasing competition, especially between the iPhone and Google?s Android, led to a deterioration in the relationship between the two tech giants. Perhaps the most obvious sign of this was in 2012 when Apple launched its own mapping software, dumping Google?s well-established Maps.

The Apple product was generally regarded as one of the company?s least successful moves, and eventually Google issued an update of its Maps app for the latest iPhone ? hinting at a thaw in the frosty relationship between the two companies. It appears that thaw has now been confirmed by Schmidt.
