As you know, the rapid pace of technological growth coupled with the demands of a global economy that operates 24/7 raises the standard for schools to produce "life-long learners" who can keep up.
Studies show students as young as third grade have started thinking of their career path which is why it?s important to start early when getting kids to understand their options in science, technology, engineering and math, also known as STEM. Studies also show that STEM classes and career planning should be built into school curriculum as early as possible, and that hands-on activities and visits with professionals in different fields are necessary for students to learn how their work in the classroom can be relevant to a future career.
To support the STEM initiative, this Saturday, March 24, William Jessup University will host Placer County?s Second Annual STEM Expo, free and open to the public from 11 am to 4 pm. The event is much like a gigantic science fair featuring state of the art robotics and several hands on demonstrations from various local organizations including Parallax Robotics, Star Eco Station, Placer Nature Center, Wild Things, FTC Robotics, Roseville Utility Exploration Center, Project Learning Tree, Mad Science, Early Engineers, Invent.org and many more.
The event brings over 300 student participants from elementary, middle and high schools all throughout the Placer County region.
Participants are judged and a panel of judges will award 1,2 and 3rd place winners from seven different categories.
The event runs from 11am to 4pm this Saturday (judging takes place earlier that day from 9-11am.)
