Alberta: Assistant Professor In Counselling Psychology - Indigenous Education - University Of Calgary


The Faculty of Education at the University of Calgary invites applications for a tenure-track appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor in the area of Counselling Psychology, with a research and teaching focus in child and youth mental health.


Applicants for this position should have expertise in Indigenous perspectives in research, teaching and counselling emerging from collaborations and/or partnerships with indigenous persons and communities. Preferred candidates will have counselling expertise in the area of child and youth mental health.


Applicants for this position must hold a PhD or PsyD in Counselling Psychology or related applied psychology degree. In addition, candidates must be registered or eligible to be registered as a psychologist in Alberta.


This position is one of five new Assistant Professor positions in the area of Indigenous Education at the University of Calgary. Successful candidates for these positions will have strong connections to and experiences with First Nations, M?tis and/or Inuit communities; a demonstrated record of cultural sensitivity and awareness in teaching and research; and a demonstrated ability to engage the larger community in the education of Indigenous children, youth and adults. This role is part of a University of Calgary initiative to hire more than 100 new scholars over the next year, including 13 positions across five faculties in the area of Child and Youth Mental Health.


Increasing scholarly capacity will help the University of Calgary meet its strategic goal to become one of Canada's top ?five research universities by 2016, where innovative teaching and groundbreaking research go hand in hand, and where we fully engage the communities we both serve and lead. The strategy is called Eyes High, inspired by the university's Gaelic motto, which translates as 'I will lift up my eyes.'


The successful candidate for this position will be expected to develop and conduct an externally funded research program, undertake graduate supervision, teach at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, and work collaboratively with colleagues and stakeholders both internal and external to the University.
