Stony Brook University dorms gold-certified

The U.S. Green Building Council has awarded Stony Brook University?s Nobel Halls a LEED Gold certification, according to a statement.

Nobel Halls encompasses two buildings for a total of 173,000 square feet and 600 beds. Nobel Halls opened in the fall semester of 2010 and joins a handful of residence halls in the State University of New York system to receive a LEED certification and the first on the Stony Brook campus.

The buildings were named for Nobel Prize winners C.N. Yang and Paul Lauterbur, both former faculty members at Stony Brook.
