Sri Lanka Premier Limited Over Tournament, 2012/13 ? December 13, 2012 ? Group B Round-up [Part 2]

Continued from Part 1 ...

Burgher Recreation Club secures 7-wicket win over Sri Lanka Air Force Sports Club at the Riffle Green, Colombo

An intense bowling attack, comprising Malan Madusanka (3.4-0-16-4), Gihan Dilruk (7-1-11-2), and Nimesh Perera ? jnr (10-2-27-2), set up a comfortable 7-wicket win for the Burgher Recreation Club over the Sri Lanka Air Force Sports Club. Their combined assaults succeeded in bowling out the opposition?s batting order and limiting them to a dismal final total of 105. Only four batsmen were allowed to exceed single-digit scores, and among these, Thuppahi Nadeera was the only one who managed to put up a fight, top-scoring with 34.

The 106-run chase, in turn, posed little difficulties for the Burgher Recreation Club, who completed it within 16 overs. The key contributions came from skipper Nimesh Perera ? jnr (43*), Malith Cooray (26*), and Hashan Gunathilleke (20), and despite the efforts of Tharanga Ravin (4-0-25-2), the team managed to reach 106 with ease, with 7 wickets still in hand, and 207 deliveries remaining.

Chilaw Marians Cricket Club clinches 1-wicket win over Sri Lanka Army Sports Club at the Army Ground, Panagoda

With one wicket and 8 deliveries remaining, the Chilaw Marians Cricket Club managed to execute a successful chase, after being set a target of 229 by the Sri Lanka Army Sports Club. Ravindra Palleguruge (8-2-22-2) and Ajantha Mendis (10-0-43-2) made valiant attempts to curb the opposition, but the early efforts of skipper Sachith Pathirana (55) and opener Damith Priyadharshana (31) bore fruit, and Malinga Surappulige (32*) led the team through to the end.

Earlier, the Chilaw Marians Cricket Club?s bowling attack had been led by Navin Kavikara (10-1-33-4), Sachith Pathirana (10-0-44-3), and Umesh Karunaratne (10-2-42-2) as the team looked to restrict the Sri Lanka Army Sports Club to a low total. Rishan Kavinga (49), Asela Gunaratne (47), and Ajantha Mendis (28) had chipped in to get the team total up to 228 before they were all out, but it did not prove enough to take them to victory in the end, as the Chilaw Marians Cricket Club batsmen evaded the opposition's bowlers and succeeded in claiming a 1-wicket win.
