Mayor Rob Ford ? the Toronto Catholic District School Board?s most high profile football coach ? is under review after comments he made to Sun News Network.
In an interview with SNN host David Menzies last week, Ford spoke about his work coaching high school football at Don Bosco Catholic Secondary School.
The Toronto Star reported Thursday that Ford?s comments have prompted some staff and parents of students at Don Bosco to complain to the TCDSB over his portrayal of the school.
During the interview, Ford said his goal with coaching football is to keep kids in the school.
?A lot of these kids come from gangs, they come from broken homes, the stories you would hear would bring a tear to your eye and if I can keep them in school, getting an education then I?ve won,? he told Menzies last week. ?Even if they don?t carry on in their football career, if they walk out of Don Bosco with a degree and they get a job I?m the happiest man on two feet.?
The TCDSB said Thursday it has reviewed the interview and ?shares many of the concerns expressed in a letter we received from the staff and parents at Don Bosco.?
?We are examining the mayor?s statements, some of which are a completely inaccurate portrayal of our students, our school and the community in which the school is located,? the board said in a statement.
?The Board will determine an appropriate course of action that ensures a positive learning environment for our students and promotes student achievement and well-being.
?The Board will have no further official comment on the issue until our review of this situation is completed.?
Ford shrugged off the review Thursday.
?I love that school, I love the kids, the teachers, the parents, I always have,? Ford said.
Councillor Doug Ford said his brother is appreciated at the school.
?The parents and the players love Rob, absolutely love him,? Ford said.
