Grand Rapids Mayor in favor of marijuana decriminalization GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - Grand Rapids Mayor George Hartwell has come out in favor of a proposal to decriminalize marijuana in the city, and voters will weigh in on the measure in November. The proposal would make possession and use of small amounts of marijuana a civil infraction instead of a misdemeanor crime in the city.
That means people caught with small amounts of marijuana would be ticketed instead of being arrested.
Newschannel 3's David Bailey is in Grand Rapids to explain why the Mayor thinks it's a good idea.
